The Information and Process Management (IPM) Team supports the U of M President's Operational Excellence Initiative and FM's 3 C's philosophy by developing foundational solutions to drive efficiencies through standardization, simple sustainable processes, effective business partnerships, and holistic strategy.

What We Do

EAM Project Management

  • Responsible for coordinate enterprise resources to develop project strategy, objectives, schedule, scope, and budget
  • Monitors progress and course corrects as needed
  • Ensures proper communication to all levels
  • Closes out project

Business Analysis

  • Works with operations to identify, analyze and improve existing business processes
  • Benchmark key processes and results against high performing organizations and peer institutions
  • Monitors compliance with processes
  • Internal consultant responsible for investigating business systems, identifying options for improving and acts as bridge between business and IT

Business Application Support (BAS)

  • Provides support for FM software applications
  • Business Intelligence
    • Manage the busines intelligence databases
    • Works closely with Business partners to develop and refine reporting and analytics

Contract Administration

  • Develop, negotiate, manage and administer maintenance service contracts
  • Advise and assist University departments with contract needs and/or operational issues with vendors
  • Assist in establishing new vendor relationships including RFP development, contract negotiation and assistance in managing resulting contracts
  • Identify and promote operational efficiencies and best business practice solutions
  • Respond to customers with questions or concerns about contracted vendors and/or their services

Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) Program Management

Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) is the central repository of building and infrastructure conditions and needs that are systematically codified, prioritized and cost estimated. FCA data provides;
    • High level description of overall campus condition and needs
    • Order of magnitude scope/pricing for capital projects
    • Prioritization and budgeting of renewal investments

Process Improvement and Strategy Implementation

  • Provide direction on improvement methodologies
  • Lead cross functional teams to accomplish departmental objectives
  • Helping to lead and coordinate the FM senior leadership team in developing strategic and operational objectives, aligning and prioritizing initiatives, and measuring progress against established goals

How We Do It

To support FM’s unique computer applications and reporting requirements, the Business Application Support (BAS) team is constantly looking ahead. Upgrades and improvements are identified, tested, and installed through a methodical process to ensure system reliability is maintained.

FM uses a variety of methods to promote Process Improvement, including application of quality principles such as Lean Sigma, Baldrige and Balanced Scorecard.  Recent efforts have focused on using one to five day Lean Kaizen events to quickly identify and implement improvement opportunities. The goal is to build a continuous improvement culture.
