Welcome, Freshmen

Dear FM,

I hope you all had a safe and relaxing Labor Day holiday. Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, and it serves as a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. FM has hundreds of employees in various bargaining units including Teamsters, AFSCME and over a dozen Trades unions. Thanks for all you do.

FM Meetings In the next few weeks, we’ll be holding meetings across FM so each of you can hear about our plan and goals for the coming year. I invite you submit questions in advance of your meeting - we’ll do our best to answer all questions of broad interest to FM employees during the meetings. Submit a question by Monday, September 11.

Welcome Freshmen Fall semester classes start today! Last Thursday I volunteered for convocation, which was a special ceremony to welcome the new class of roughly 6000 freshman to the U. As I held the door at Mariucci and welcomed them inside, I couldn’t help thinking that this group of happy, talented, diverse and young-looking students is a large part of why we all come to work every day. During the ceremony President Kaler recognized the seven undergraduate colleges, which is a great way to simplify our complex institution. Here they are, with the FM area of campus where most of their core classes take place.

College of Liberal Arts
(East Bank, West Bank)
College of Science and Engineering
(East Bank)
College of Education and Human Development
(East Bank)
College of Design
(East Bank, St Paul)
College of Biological Sciences
(St Paul, East Bank)
College of Food and Natural Resources
(St Paul)
Carlson School of Management
(West Bank)

Your work in these colleges ensures our buildings are in tip-top shape, and more importantly, that our new freshman feel welcomed. Thank you again!

Have a great week,
