July 24 roundup

Dear FM,

The FM summer employee appreciation picnic and MN United game was Saturday, and we had a great time! I’ll have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about planning such a large event with so many unknowns and logistics to manage. I am very thankful for the work of our planning team and all those who made the event a success. In particular, thanks to FM Admin Managers Janee Meyers, Eric Eischens, Ashley Hightower, Jacquelyn Olson, Jennifer Pierson, Nissa Sale, Shari Sayles and  Renee Tyler, as well as West Bank Team Manager Kelly Richardson. Thanks also to the district and landcare crews who came in to help when we realized we were expecting more than twice our original employee estimate. They are: Paul Kline, Sr. Gardener,  Rick Skjonsby, Chad Klecker and Mike Westberg, Gardeners, Mulugeta Yosief, East Bank Sr. B&G Worker, Chris Mensen, Hudson McCoy, Yosef Besha, East Bank B&G Workers and Tyler DiSera, Central Services. You all did a great job ensuring the day ran smoothly. Also thanks to Ross Allanson and the PTS organization for accommodating our parking needs.

We’re pulling together pictures from the event to post on the FM website and digital boards over the next few days. View the pictures on the website and if you have any to share, please send them to Christie Wells. We’ll add more as we get them!

Speaking of photos, here are a few of the excellent shots you’ve been sending of FM crews and campus. I feel they really highlight the varied work our teams do.

FM truck crew hard at work Custodial crews use special truck mounted equipment to annually deep clean parking ramp stairwells. Below are pics of crew members cleaning the  East River Road. The full crew working that evening included Fitsum Gebru, Sr. B&G workers Fitsum Gebru and Dallas Bandy, and B&G workers  Terry Johnson, Iseyas Tuccu, and Dave Valensky. Goldy Chair in its permanent home A few weeks ago I mentioned the new “Selfie Chair” being built and painted by FM teams. The chair is now installed on Northrop Mall. Read more about how the chair came into being on the FM website. Some of the first employees to take a pic in the chair are Jaime Jackman, Carpenter,  Bruce Ballentine, Mechanic 2, Tim Ravn, Electrician, Brian Ketchum, Carpenter,  Mark Charpentier, Electrician, and  Chad Swisher, Pipefitter. Photo by Paul Drews, East Bank Team Manager.

Repairing flagpoles and planters Clayton Dehaan, Project Manager for U Construction, sent in this picture of the Armory Building with FM crew completing flagpole repairs. He also photographed carpenters working on planter boxes on West Bank Plaza. Working on the planters are U Construction carpenters Rick Wieber and Justin Turk.

Below is a view of the ceiling of Andersen Library designed by the architectural firm of Stageberg, Beyer, and Sachs. Thanks to Karen Haakonson, Project Coordinator for West Bank, for sending the picture of this unique campus feature.

Have a great week working on our beautiful campus,
